Oregon's 'Pacific Wonderland' license plates were originally designed by schoolchildren to celebrate the state's centenary, and were first available between 1959 and 1964. Oregon joined the Union on 14 February 1859.
They were reintroduced to celebrate the 150th anniversary. I couldn't find a date on the web page from which I got this information, but it was presumably in 2009.
Citizens of Oregon (Oregonians?) have to pay an additional charge of $100 to have these "classic" license plates. The funds thus generated are divided equally between the Oregon Historical Society and the Oregon State Capitol Foundation.
The fact that this is mentioned here and nowhere else (that I've seen) suggests that Oregon is unique in this respect.
